Independence High School

Good morning, Falcons!  Today is Mrs. Bernardin-Brown’s birthday!  If you see her, make sure to tell her “happy birthday!”  We wouldn’t have the student store or concessions without all her hard work, so if you enjoy getting pizza or hot cheetos at lunch, you should definitely show her some love!

Best of luck to all our athletes competing today - everyone is traveling except for our frosh/soph women’s basketball team, which is starting the “Falcon Shootout” today!  Come support our Falcons!

Remember, if you’re planning to join us on the bus to Venice to watch the football playoff game, you MUST turn in your signed permission slip and pay for your ticket/transportation by the end of lunch today.  No money will be accepted after school today.

Even if you're not coming down to watch the game, you can still help us celebrate the team on Friday! Everyone needs to wear white in solidarity!

We’ll be starting our door decorating contest next week!  Teachers will complete a sign-up form to choose the color paper you want for your door, but the design and construction must be entirely student-led.  We’ll deliver paper to you on Monday, and judging will take place on Friday, December 10.  Winners will be announced on Monday, December 13 - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners will earn donuts!

Senior shirts may be picked up during 5th-period lunch (do not come during or between classes - you will be sent back to class).

Next week, we’ll kick off our Penny Wars for the Ronald McDonald House - this is an organization that provides housing and support for families with children in the hospital.  So, you’ll be collecting pennies in your 2nd-period classrooms - we’ll distribute cans on Friday!  The winning class will earn donuts!

We have another blood drive coming up on December 16 - if you’re interested in participating, please come pick up a permission slip from the Activities Office starting today and set up your appointment online - use the QR code that will be posted tomorrow to sign up.  Remember - you must be at least 16 years old to donate and everyone must get paperwork signed by parents/guardians.

Before you know it, it will be 2022, which means it’s time for another Food Sale Day!  Our next Food Sale Day is scheduled for Thursday, January 6.  Make sure your club advisor signs up using the form they received in their email.  Also, all finance office forms must be submitted by 12/16 in order to participate.

Attention staff: It’s time to show IHS who rules the school: MAROON OR SILVER?  Make sure to check out the email you received regarding the Maroon/Silver Reboot - there’s a Canvas tile with all the information you’ll need.  There are plenty of ways to earn points in the next few weeks - show us which team is the hungriest for the win!

Color guard tryouts will be happening Monday and Tuesday (December 6 and 7) from 5:30 - 8:00pm. Please see Ms. Liz in the Activities Office to sign up.

There will be a BSU meeting today during 4th-period lunch in P7 and 5th-period lunch in room #1005.  BSU meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month.  Check the BSU Canvas for important dates and information.

Have you been thinking of applying for ROC or CTEC for the 2022-2023 school year?  There are some amazing programs - like firefighting, pharmacy tech, culinary training, fashion design, and more!  If so, Mr. Little will be here during both lunches today!  He will be located outside of the deans’ office and can answer any of your questions about the programs.

Seniors who will be attending BC or Taft College next year:  You can sign up for the BC and Taft Application workshops in the Counseling Office before school, lunch or after school.  BC will be on campus December 1st and 2nd.  Taft will be on campus December 7th and 8th.  You must attend this workshop to move to the next step in the registration process.
