Good morning, Falcons!  It’s Friday!  It’s also Counselor Appreciation Week, so let’s give a huge shout-out to the amazing people who help keep us on track, steer us in the right direction, and ensure we know what the heck the acronym FAFSA stands for!  You are so appreciated!!

In honor of the first week of Black History Month, we’d like to highlight the accomplishments of US Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley.  Stating that, as a Black woman, her hair is both personal and political, she made a huge impact on the political stage with her Senegalese twists.  When she began losing her hair due to Alopecia, she decided to be transparent about her diagnosis, saying, “I do believe going public will help . . . I'm ready now, because I want to be freed from the secret and the shame that secret carries with it. Because I'm not here just to occupy space — I'm here to create it.”  Congresswoman Pressley worked to create the CROWN Act, which bans discrimination based on hair.

If you’d like to contribute something to honor Black history, such as a poem, song, artwork, or essay, please submit a video, photo, or document to Mrs. Heiss via email.  The deadline for next week’s News from the Nest episode is the end of the day on Monday.  Have questions?  Please contact Mrs. Heiss in the Activities Office.

Good news, everyone!  We have another Food Sale Day coming up on February 24!  Make sure your club advisors know to sign up using the link they received on Monday!  Let’s have another delicious campus feast!

Freshmen and sophomores - today is the first Friday of the month, which means it’s time for FUN FRIDAY!  We’ll have a group of Link Crew leaders out for 4th period lunch with games and music - don’t miss out!

Whenever you’re shivering in the cold each morning waiting for your teacher to open the classroom door, remember the shelter animals.  Their cages have cold concrete floors, and this time of year is especially difficult for them.  Our Animal Club and United Nations Club are teaming up to collect new or used blankets to help keep these poor innocent animals warm during these cold winter months.  Contact Mrs. McKnight for more information or drop donations off at room 905.

Seniors - we’ll be having an assembly on February 16th to review all the important information for graduation and end-of-year activities.  Make sure to be at school so you don’t miss out on important information!  A representative from Josten’s will be here next Thursday (February 10) to take cap and gown orders - get yours before the prices go up!

We have a spirit week coming up!  The week of Valentine’s Day will be chock-full of fun competitions and dress-up days.  We’ll be selling Valentine Grams near the end of next week to be delivered the week of the 15th, so make sure to order some for your friend, secret crush, or favorite teacher!  Stay tuned for more details!

The Writing Club will be hosting a Valentine's Day Poetry Bash soon! Bring any poetry to share, whether it's about love or heartbreak. They will meet in room 713 during 5th period lunch on February 16th.

We’re still delivering pins, certificates, and photos to our fall athletes, so don’t worry if you haven’t gotten yours yet!  We are so proud of all of our amazing football, volleyball, tennis, golf, water polo, and cross country athletes!

Next week we’ll have senior nights for girls’ soccer, along with both boys’ and girls’ basketball!  Seniors, bring your school ID to the basketball games and get in free!  Come celebrate our amazing senior athletes!  Let’s pack the stands!

All students: Don't forget to buy your yearbook.  Sales end soon!  We cannot guarantee there will be extras.  Purchase your book in the finance office or on Jostens.com.  The final purchase deadline is February 25, which will be here before you know it!

The final payment deadline for AP tests is 2/25 - make sure to get your payment in by that date!

Have a great weekend!
