Good morning, Falcons! One of the countless areas of Black influence in the US is music.  This week, we’ll be focusing on a different genre of music in the quad during lunch.  Today, we’ll be featuring Motown - Motown, or the Motown sound, is a style of rhythm and blues music named after the record company Motown in Detroit, where teams of songwriters and musicians produced material for girl groups, boy bands, and solo singers during the 1960s and early 1970s. The music of Motown helped a small record company become the largest Black American-owned enterprise in the country and a national music industry competitor in the United States.  Songs like “My Girl,” “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” “Stop in the Name of Love,” and “Dancin’ in the Street” have become iconic in American musical history.  Come out and dance with us today!

If you’d like to contribute something to honor Black history, such as a poem, song, artwork, or essay, please submit a video, photo, or document to Mrs. Heiss via email.  The deadline for each week’s News from the Nest episode is the end of the day on Monday.  Have questions?  Please contact Mrs. Heiss in the Activities Office.

Remember, this week is a SPIRIT WEEK!  Today, we’ll be peeping your status: wear red if you’re in a relationship, pink if “it’s complicated,” and black if you’re single and ready to mingle!  Then come and join our lunch games to earn some candy!  Wednesday, dress like your celebrity crush - just make sure your celebrity crush still follows the IHS dress code!  Thursday, pick a side: pink or red?  We’ll see who reigns supreme!  And Friday is twin day!

When you get a chance today, go check out the cafeteria wall - find your name among the 2300 hearts!  Feel free to take yours home or leave it up on the wall!

Food sale day is coming up next week!  Make sure your advisor has turned all necessary paperwork in to the finance office by tomorrow in order to participate!
