Good morning, Falcons! We’ll have News from the Nest ready for you tomorrow - sorry for the delay!

One of the countless areas of Black influence in the US is music.  This week, we’ll be focusing on a different genre of music in the quad during lunch.  Today, we’ll be featuring Rhythm and Blues, or R & B: Rhythm and blues, frequently abbreviated as R&B or R'n'B, is a genre of popular music that originated in African-American communities in the 1940s. In the commercial rhythm and blues music typical of the 1950s through the 1970s, the bands usually consisted of piano, one or two guitars, bass, drums, one or more saxophones, and sometimes background vocalists. R&B lyrical themes often encapsulate the African-American experience of pain and the quest for freedom and joy, as well as triumphs and failures in terms of relationships, economics, and aspirations. Some of the most famous pioneers of the genre include Sam Cooke, Della Reese, and Chuck Berry. Come out and dance with us today!

If you’d like to contribute something to honor Black history, such as a poem, song, artwork, or essay, please submit a video, photo, or document to Mrs. Heiss via email.  The deadline for each week’s News from the Nest episode is the end of the day on Monday.  Have questions?  Please contact Mrs. Heiss in the Activities Office.

Remember, this week is a SPIRIT WEEK!  Loved seeing all the different colors on campus yesterday - who knew there were so many “complicated” relationships out there!  Today, show off your celebrity crush outfit - I’m really hoping to see some Post Malones or Lady Gagas out there! At lunch, come out and join our “Saran Wrap Challenge” and possibly earn some cool prizes!  Tomorrow, pick a side: pink or red?  We’ll see who reigns supreme!  And Friday is twin day!

When you get a chance today, go check out the cafeteria wall - find your name among the 2300 hearts!  Feel free to take yours home or leave it up on the wall!

Food sale day is coming up next week!  Make sure your advisor has turned all necessary paperwork in to the finance office TODAY in order to participate!

Interested in becoming a lifeguard for Bakersfield Recreation and Parks? There’s a pre-assessment at McMurtrey Aquatic Center that you must pass to join the training program. To receive information on the program and the registration process, see Mrs. Hoyt in the Career Center before school, at lunch, or after school. Students must be at least 16 years of age.

Don’t forget to check your RISE points!  We’re adding more to the store every day - you’ll even have the chance to redeem your points for a yearbook or prom ticket (while supplies last!)!
