Good morning, Falcons! Happy Friday! Happy belated birthday wishes to our Dean’s Office Secretary Sonya Villalobos and our math teacher Mr. Bramer! Hope you had a day filled with cake and ice cream!
We hope you’ve enjoyed our musical tributes during lunch this week! The musical influence of Black Americans can’t be overstated; from jazz to Motown, from gospel to blues, from R & B to hip hop, and from pop to the genre-bending styles of today’s artists, Black artists are the foundations of our music culture. Today, we’ll celebrate both the “old school” and the “new school,” so make sure to come out and enjoy some Billie Holliday, Mariah Carey, and Beyonce!
If you’d like to contribute something to honor Black history, such as a poem, song, artwork, or essay, please submit a video, photo, or document to Mrs. Heiss via email. The deadline for each week’s News from the Nest episode is the end of the day on Monday. Have questions? Please contact Mrs. Heiss in the Activities Office.
Thanks to everyone who has been participating in our spirit week! Loved to see the battle between red and pink yesterday - we had some fierce competition in our lunch games in the quad! Personally, I think we should just be like Prince and go with purple. Today, grab your twin and meet us out in the quad for some Rock Paper Scissors Relay!
And remember, the fun doesn’t stop today - next week is FFA week, and each day is filled with fun activities and fascinating insight into the agricultural industry!
Food sale day is coming up next week! Don’t forget to bring some extra cash with you on Thursday so you can grab some delicious treats! Also, make sure to check your RISE points - we’ve added 50 Falcon Food Sale Flash Passes! You can redeem your RISE points between now and 2/24 to earn the pass. The passes are 20 points and allow freshmen and sophomores to leave third period 10 minutes early for the food sale, and juniors and seniors to check in with their fourth period teacher and go to the food sale for 15 minutes! Sounds like a deal to me! Hurry and get yours before they’re all sold out!
Are you interested in learning more about different cultures? The United Nations Club is hosting a cultural festival on February 22nd to celebrate Mother Language Day. We have several cultures and languages participating already, including Spanish, Hindi, Tagalog, Mandarin, and more! We’re looking forward to the performances, food, and learning more about the diversity at IHS. Everyone is welcome to attend. Meet us at the cafeteria FEBRUARY 22nd from 3-5pm!
Today is the last day to submit your CSF application! Applications can be found in the counseling office or on the IHS website.
All students: Don't forget to buy your yearbook. Sales end soon! We cannot guarantee there will be extras. Purchase your book in the finance office or on Jostens.com. The final purchase deadline is February 25, which will be here before you know it!
AP/Honors applications are now available! From the IHS website, go to the "Counseling" drop down menu and select "Forms/Applications." You may also pick up a copy in the Counseling Office. They are due Friday, March 4th.
Scholarship Reminder! Attention, graduating seniors! If you are planning to attend college, university, or an accredited technical school following graduation, be sure to apply to the Kern County Foundation. Students with a GPA of 2.0 and higher are welcome to apply. One common application completed will be sent out to multiple organizations offering scholarships. Don’t waste an opportunity for free money!
Have an amazing 3-day weekend!
