Good morning, Falcons!  Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Congratulations to our prom royalty:

  • Prince: Kekoa Sefo

  • Princess: Ariana Yates

  • King: Curtis Franklin

  • Queen: Pashience Branquinho

Speaking of prom - huge shoutout to Mrs. Zalatel and the junior class!  What an amazing event!  Thank you to everyone who helped make it a success, including th MVPs who stayed afterwards to help clean up, including Kieron Oba,  Laila Ranger, Isaiah Avila, Hannah Changala, Mr. Goodwin, and both Mr. and Mrs. Zaletel!  Also, big thanks to our chaperones, security, and Ms. Liz for all their hard work!

Seniors!  Jostens will be on campus today to distribute your caps and gowns during both lunch periods!  If you’re an ROC or CTEC student, come by during 4th-period lunch to pick up your regalia!  If you haven’t yet ordered yours, please contact Jostens immediately to make sure you don’t miss out!

Calling all artists!  If you’d like to enter the Mental Health Awareness Art Contest, please submit your piece to the counseling office by Wednesday, May 11.  The artwork should demonstrate self-care and self-love/acceptance and send a message of hope.  Please submit your piece on 8x11 paper.

Are you struggling with your mental health?  Remember - help is available and you don’t have to suffer alone!  Check in with our social worker, substance abuse specialist, intervention specialist, or your counselor!  And today during lunch, a mental health provider in Kern County will be on campus in front of the Admin building to provide more information about treatment options!

Congratulations to Kaitlyn Nickell and Roberto Mercado, who received awards for their artwork at last Friday’s KHSD Visual Arts Showcase!  Check out more IHS art during the art show on May 24!

Attention JUNIORS!  T.A. forms for the next school year are now available in the counseling office at Mrs. Gillenwater's desk.  Please DO NOT come during class time.  Again, this is for current juniors only.

Looking for a way to stay busy and be productive this summer?  Consider taking a Summer School Course at ROC/CTEC.  The ROC/CTEC Summer School Application is now open on their web-site (roc.kernhigh.org).  The application will be open until Friday June 3rd.  Don't wait....Applications are time-stamped and classes are filled on a first come, first served basis. There are only a certain amount of spaces per class.  Classes being offered are:  3D Design, Personal Trainer and Advanced Selling for Small Business Success.  Class descriptions are available at roc.kernhigh.org.

Seniors!  Celebrate your future plans at our College Signing Day on May 12!  Sign up using the QR code on our Instagram page or the IHS website OR via the Class of 2022 Google Classroom!

Seniors, Mrs. Hoyt is planning the Senior Awards Ceremony on June 1st.  We at  Independence High School  would like to recognize the scholarships and awards you have received. Please stop by the Career Center or email her at [email protected]

Have a great day!
