Independence High School

Wednesday, December 21, 2022

Good morning, Falcons!  It’s the first day of finals, which means we’re almost done with the first semester!  Freshmen, we hope it’s been a great introduction to high school, and seniors - enjoy the time you have left this year, as it will fly by!

Congratulations to the biggest “winners” and “losers” in Dime Wars - with the most negative points, the biggest “loser” is Ms. Herrera!  The runner-up for most positive points is Mrs. Trent.  And, our top winner (most positive points) is Mr. Schilhabel!  Mr. Schilhabel’s 2nd period will be enjoying a pizza party today, while Ms. Herrera, Mrs. Trent, and Mrs. Malson (for the door contest) will all be enjoying donuts for their class prizes!

Aside from the winners and losers, IHS students and staff deserve a huge pat on the back for working so hard to gather money for the Ronald McDonald House!  In just 2 weeks, we collected nearly $1,000 to donate to sick children in Bakersfield.

For the Adopt-A-Star program, we’re making the holidays brighter for dozens of children at Castle and Suburu elementary schools!  Has your heart grown 3 sizes yet?

Seniors!  Only half of you have purchased caps and gowns!  Make sure to go online to Jostens.com or call 1-800-Jostens prior to February 15, when the price will increase!  Don’t procrastinate!!

There will be no after school tutoring or tutoring bus during finals. Tutoring will resume after winter vacation on Tuesday, January 10th.

Formal tickets are on sale this week for $55.  You can purchase your tickets before school and during lunch this week.  Also, the finance office will be open for 1 hour after school today and tomorrow.   More ticket information is on the IHS website, Instagram, and posted at the Finance Office and Activities Office.

If you applied for the winter formal royalty court, please check your Kern High email on Friday to find out if you made the cut!  The first round of voting will take place the week we return, and final voting will take place during the dance.

If you're feeling stressed or nervous about finals, stop by the library to pick up an encouraging note from the United Nations Club.

Softball tryouts start January 9th, and students must be cleared before they can try out. Information about physicals and SportsNet is available in the Athletics Office.

Have a great first day of finals, Falcons! You can do it!
