Good morning, Falcons!

February is Black History Month, so we’ll be featuring contributions from Black artists, inventors, and activists this month.  Next week we’ll be featuring a musical tour of Black artists during lunch, featuring performances from IHS students.  Students - If you’d like to contribute something to honor Black history, such as a poem, song, artwork, or essay, please submit a video, photo, or document to Mrs. Heiss via email.

Seniors!  Jostens will be on campus during lunch on Monday - make sure to order your cap and gown!

A message from the Deans and Police Officer: Reminder to all students - no student parking is allowed in any of the staff parking lots.  All students must park in the student parking lot at Old River and Falcon Way.  Student vehicles may be cited or towed if found parked in a staff parking lot.  Thank you.

And now, as a tribute to Black History Month, here are two poetry recommendations that honor the contributions of Black Americans:

  • The Undefeated by Kwame Alexander, a picture book in poetry form that serves to inspire and encourage Black communities.

  • Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson, which recounts the author’s experience growing up as a Black child in the 1960s in South Carolina and New York.  This book of poetry won the National Book Award for Young People’s Literature and the Coretta Scott King Book Award.
