Happy Valentine’s Day, Falcons! Remember, you don’t have to have a significant other - celebrate your friendships, too!!!  Today, our dress-up theme is “Wear Your Status,” so red equals taken, pink equals “it’s complicated,” and white means you’re single and ready to mingle!  Tomorrow, pair up with a friend and represent an “Iconic Duo!”  Thursday is “Soulmate Day,” also known as “Twin Day!”  Friday, dress up or down, depending on your preference!  We’ll be handing out candy to people dressed up each day, so make sure to participate!  Plus, we’ll be awarding a prize at the end of the week to the person who demonstrated the most school spirit!

We’ll be hosting games in the quad during lunch every day this week, so come out and play!  Today, we’ll be testing friendships and relationships - see if you can answer questions the same as your partner!

Make sure to check out the cafeteria this week - each student’s name has been written on a heart and posted on the wall.  Find yours!

In honor of both Valentine’s Day and Black History Month, let’s remember some of the most inspiring couples who made an impact on American society.  Teachers, this week, you’ll receive a daily email highlighting an African American couple who had a major influence on our country.  Today’s couple is Medgar and Myrlie Evers.

Huge congrats to our boys’ and girls’ soccer and basketball teams for making the playoffs!  Come out and cheer for boys’ soccer today at 6pm as they battle Clovis East!  Tomorrow, our girls’ team will host Lemoore!  Our boys’ basketball team will play against Atascadero tomorrow in the IHS gym, and our girls’ team will play an away game at Garces.  Make sure to show our incredible athletes some love this week!

Another huge congratulations to our wrestling team for taking 4th place as a team for the first time in the school's history and qualifying 10 wrestlers to the Masters Championships next weekend!! We had 3 wrestlers in the finals, with Isaac Quiroz becoming Independence High School’s first ever back-toback Valley Champion!

Place winners are:

  • Jacob Perez 5th place

  • Terrion Hopkins 8th place

  • Bernardo Loera 6th place

  • Nasir Wilcox 6th place

  • Isaac Quiroz 1st place

  • Gage Leyvas 3rd place

  • David Alvarez 2nd place

  • Nolan Backstrom 2nd place

  • Adam Calistro 5th place

  • Emma Goodison 4th place

Good luck to our wrestlers at this weekend's state tournament qualifiers with the boys at Buchanan High School and girls at Morro Bay High School! We’re rooting for you!

In FFA news, congratulations to Cheyenne Coronado, Alias Johnson, and Adelina Ramirez for interviewing to be an officer for the San Joaquin Region this past Saturday. Cheyenne Coronado was slated for Regional Secretary and Adelina Ramirez was slated for South Valley Regional Vice President. Wish them luck as they prepare for their speeches on Saturday, February 25 – if elected, they will represent IHS at the regional FFA level for the upcoming coming year!

Also, a big congratulations to Emily Lizarraga for advancing to the next round of State FFA Officer interviews. This is a huge accomplishment, and we are so excited for you!

Way to go, IHS Theatre!  Our Falcon Thespians received rave reviews for their performance at the annual Spotlight Festival at Cal State Bakersfield last Friday, and senior Valentine Kenney won an award for an outstanding original monologue!

The finance office is closed this week.

AP/Honors applications are now available for the 2023-2024 school year!  Pick up a paper copy from Mrs. Moreno in the Counseling Office or download the application from our website!

Are you interested in ROC or CTEC?  Mr. Grant from ROC and CTEC will be here during lunch on Thursday, February 16th.  He will be set up outside of the Deans’ Office to answer any questions you may have.

Have a great day, Falcons!  Go out and show some love!
