Happy Friday, Falcons!
It’s Black History Month! Our BSU, Project BEST, and YWEL groups have organized some great activities to reflect this year’s theme: African Americans and the Arts, including a door decorating contest honoring Black singers, past or present.
You may have heard about the “Bakersfield Sound,” but there’s another genre of music that originated here: “The Modern Soul.” Luther Davis Jr. is credited with the creation of this new genre, along with his band, “The Luther Davis Group,” and he’s featured in the Bakersfield Hall of Fame. Bakersfield is home to more than just country music!
