Here’s the fun fact of the day - As we go into Super Bowl weekend, we would be remiss not to honor D.J. Reed, a former student at Independence High School. He is a NFL player. He was Born and raised in Bakersfield; Dennis Duane "D. J." Reed Jr. (born November 11, 1996) is an African American professional football cornerback for the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Kansas State and was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL draft.

Don’t forget that next week is our Spirit week. Make sure to dress up.
The dress up days are as follows:
Tuesday: 90’s
Wednesday: Pan African wear Red, Green or Purple
Thursday: Sports Attire rep your favorite sports team or athlete
Friday: Valentines Day wear Red White or Pink

If you are wanting to take an AP or Honors class next year, applications are now available in the counseling office. Pick one up before school, at lunch or after school. Deadline: February 28th.

There will be a Mu Alpha Theta meeting today in Room 1007 to prepare for Math Field Day.

Our next blood drive will be held on Thursday, February 13th. Permission slips are available in the Activities office. Spots are filling up fast - get your permission slip turned in asap.

Are you interested in playing Fortnite for IHS? It's not too late to join the team. Come by 907 during lunch this Thursday and Friday for more information.

Show your friends, favorite teachers or that special someone how much you appreciate them with a Valentine's Gram! Each gram will include a sweet treat and a special message for only $2! They will be available to purchase at lunch in the quad from February 11th-13th! Don't miss out and spread some love this Valentine's Day!

Speaking of Valentine’s day. What better way to spend time with your favorite Valentine than watching a movie. There will be a Valentine’s movie night on Thursday, February 13 from 4p-6p here at IHS. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on and join us for an afternoon movie with your Valentine.

CSF applications are now available. Come to the counseling office before school, lunch or after school to pick up the application. It is also available on our website. Deadline to apply is this Friday, February 7th.

There is no school on Monday. Enjoy your 3 day weekend!
