Greetings, Falcon Families!
What an outstanding week! We were treated to a beautiful concert by our choir and orchestra students and a movie night celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Our football team won a resounding victory over Ridgeview on Friday, while Saturday marked the first band and colorguard competition of the season, and the Class of 2028 hosted a “Pink Carpet Premier” homecoming dance to kick off our homecoming week!
This week is equally busy, as we count down to homecoming with a spirit week and rally in preparation for the big game against Highland on Friday! Students and staff alike are also excited about our first Food Sale Day of the year on Thursday!
Members of the community will be joining staff and students this upcoming Wednesday for Principal Partners Day - this is a chance for us to showcase the myriad programs and services offered at IHS, as well as an opportunity to connect with local community members and organizations.
Quarter 1 officially ended this past Friday, and report cards will be mailed out this Friday - remember, if your student participates in a sport or activity, they must maintain a 2.0 GPA. Eligibility will be determined on October 20. If your student is struggling in one or more subjects, please consider one of the academic support options provided by IHS. We have started our after-school tutoring program - students can seek help in math and science on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:15 - 5:15 in the library. There’s a bus that arrives at 5:30 for students who need transportation.
Another valuable resource that’s available to students at school and at home is Tutor.com. This website provides 24/7 live, online tutoring services to students in any subject. Tutoring can be via text or video chat, and all tutors are highly trained professionals that can support students with any needs they might have. This includes reviewing concepts, homework assistance, essay analysis, and study help for upcoming tests. Find more information on Kern High’s Digital Resource page.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns - we are always grateful for your ongoing support and involvement at IHS.
Sincerely,
Guillermo Alvarado, Ed.D.
Principal, Independence High School
