Greetings, Falcon Families!
Holiday celebrations are in full swing at Independence! One of the best characteristics of our school is how dedicated our students are to acts of service. Numerous clubs and classes are collaborating to bring joy to local families via gift drives, donations, charity concerts, and more. It’s so inspiring to see students focused on helping the community in a season that can be difficult for struggling families.
There are just two more weeks until the end of the first semester! Please encourage your students to attend our after-school tutoring sessions available on Tuesdays through Thursdays (late transportation provided) or to access our online tutoring support on tutor.com. We even have a special evening of tutoring oriented to our newest Falcons - our annual "Cocoa and Cram" will be held in the cafeteria on December 17 for 2 hours after school. Both teachers and Link Crew Leaders will offer tutoring and guidance, along with hot cocoa for some holiday cheer, before finals begin.
Congratulations to our Cross-Country team on an excellent season this year! Special kudos to runners Jacob Quezada and Noely Mojarro for qualifying for the California State Cross Country Meet and running excellent times! Jacob and Noely were two of only 250 California athletes to qualify for this event. Jacob is also continuing to represent IHS at the Footlocker Nationals Cross Country Meet at Mt. San Antonio College! We are so proud of our Falcon athletes!
This season has been historic for IHS Band and Colorguard. For the first time, the band earned the High Music caption at each of their first three competitions. In addition, they took home High Auxiliary and High Percussion awards during these events. Their success continued at the 5th Annual Titan Marching Band Invitational, where they earned first place in their division, along with High General Effect and the honor of being named Overall Tournament Champion. Last week, the students performed at the Orange Cove competition, where they once again earned first place and won High Auxiliary and High Percussion captions. This momentum carried them into Semifinals, where they were crowned the Northern California 6A Division Champions! They also swept the caption awards, earning High Music, High Visual, High General Effect, Outstanding Soloist, and High Auxiliary.
More of our talented Falcons will perform this Friday, December 13, at our annual Falcons Got Talent competition! The show begins at 7pm and all proceeds benefit the Class of 2025!
Don't forget - Winter Formal tickets are currently on sale! The dance will be held at the Lux Event Center on January 11, 2025, from 7:00pm to 10:00pm (students must arrive before 8:00pm in order to gain entry). More details regarding pricing and guest contracts are available on the IHS website and Instagram.
