Greetings, Falcon Families!
Hope you’ve enjoyed your second 3-day weekend! We had a busy week at Independence, with playoffs for winter sports, a blood drive, our Falcons Got Talent show, a food sale day, and a band/colorguard competition! Girls soccer has advanced to the quarterfinals and will square off against Hanford in tomorrow’s playoffs! As we begin our spring sports season, don’t forget to join us to celebrate our winter athletes at our Winter Sports Awards on March 4!
Huge congratulations to Mai Nguyen, who beat out 41 students from across the country to advance to the Speech and Debate finals this past weekend!
We are so grateful for our BSU, YWEL, and Project Best groups for all their work promoting Black History Month! This past week, we had a movie night and a soul food breakfast, and next week BSU will be hosting a cookout. The final week of February will feature a campus-wide door decorating contest celebrating musical icons!
This upcoming week features a favorite tradition at Independence: our outstanding FFA department hosts the annual FFA Week, with activities in the quad each day showcasing the many facets of the agricultural industry. On Thursday, a lucky teacher will be selected to kiss a goat!
The window for Progress Report #3 closes Tuesday, so, if your student is struggling in one or more subjects, please encourage them to attend our after-school tutoring sessions available on Tuesdays through Thursdays (late transportation provided).
Another valuable resource that’s available to students at school and at home is Tutor.com. This website provides 24/7 live, online tutoring services to students in any subject. Tutoring can be via text or video chat, and all tutors are highly trained professionals that can support students with any needs they might have. This includes reviewing concepts, homework assistance, essay analysis, and study help for upcoming tests. Find more information on Kern High’s Digital Resource page.
