Greetings, Falcon Families!
Spring is in the air! We had a busy week, with choir and band/orchestra concerts, athletic tournaments, our awards ceremony for winter sports, and the reveal of this year’s prom theme: Gatsby’s Golden Gala! We’re looking forward to some fun spring activities, including activities in the quad, a LISTOS retreat, and the 2nd-annual Big Art and Food Festival! Our BSU/Project BEST/YWEL groups are excited to host their end-of-the-year celebration on March 26, where they’ll honor their graduating seniors! Remember, state testing for our juniors begins this week, so please help them do their best by getting them to school on time and with a hearty breakfast!
As we approach Spring Break, please remind your students that confetti eggs are strictly prohibited on campus - students found with them will be subject to disciplinary action. Thank you for helping keep our campus clean and safe!
If you have an incoming freshman, make sure to mark your calendar for Freshman Orientation on Thursday, March 12! Then, we’ll have two separate dates for registration: March 16 and March 23! We’re excited to welcome the Class of 2030!
The grading window for Quarter 3 ends this Friday, so if your student is struggling in one or more subjects, please encourage them to attend our after-school tutoring sessions available on Tuesdays through Thursdays (late transportation provided).
Another valuable resource that’s available to students at school and at home is Tutor.com. This website provides 24/7 live, online tutoring services to students in any subject. Tutoring can be via text or video chat, and all tutors are highly trained professionals that can support students with any needs they might have. This includes reviewing concepts, homework assistance, essay analysis, and study help for upcoming tests. Find more information on Kern High’s Digital Resource page.
Interested in more ways to get involved at IHS? Looking for some additional resources? Our Parent and Family Center is here to help! Find out how to become an “observer” on Canvas to track your student’s academic progress.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 661.834.8001 - we appreciate your support!
Sincerely,
Guillermo Alvarado, Ed.D
Principal, Independence High School
