Greetings, Falcons! We had a great first week at Independence! Even in the midst of a heat wave, our Falcon staff and students were positive, engaged, and excited to start the school year!
Remember, we operate on an early-out schedule on Mondays - you can check out the attendance calendar and bell schedule on the IHS website here.
We’d like to invite you to our Back To School Night program on Monday, August 28, from 5:30 to 7:30pm. The evening will start in the gym at 5:30 for an introductory session; classroom visits and teacher presentations will begin at 6:00pm. Our Link Crew Leaders and ASB officers will provide information and assistance throughout the evening.
That night, we’ll also invite you to vote for our newest School Site Council parent representatives. We are currently seeking parents to fill two seats on this advisory council. Parent representatives will attend four meetings per year for a two-year term. These public meetings allow students, staff, parents, and community members to provide input and oversight regarding the use of supplemental funds for school improvement. If you are interested in one of the two available positions, please visit our website and complete the Parent Interest form online by Wednesday, August 23. Or, you may use this LINK.
Speaking of parent involvement, we have a new Parent Center Community Specialist, Dolores DeLeon! She has a wealth of knowledge and experience working alongside parents of Kern High students, so please contact her or visit the Parent Center page on the IHS website if you have any questions about accessing Synergy, ParentVue, or Canvas, or any other resources available to you and your student.
We have many exciting events and opportunities planned for the next few weeks - stay tuned to our website and Instagram page (@ihsfalcons) for details about our upcoming spirit week, rally, football games, and lunch activities! Homecoming will be right around the corner!
