It’s almost Homecoming season! Mark your calendars for our Homecoming game against Highland on Saturday, September 30. Students are invited to attend our Homecoming dance on September 23, and we’ll have a school-wide rally on the 29th!
Our students in FFA are working to prepare for the upcoming Kern County Fair, where they’ll demonstrate their skills in a variety of agricultural disciplines! We encourage you to visit their impressive displays at this year’s fair!
We’re also excited to share the various academic resources we provide at IHS. This past week, we started our after-school tutoring program - students can seek help in math, English, social studies, science, and more! There’s a bus that arrives at 5:30 for students who need transportation.
Another valuable resource that’s available to students at school and at home is Tutor.com. This website provides 24/7 live, online tutoring services to students in any subject. Tutoring can be done via text or video chat, and all tutors are highly trained professionals that can support students with any needs they might have. This includes reviewing concepts, homework assistance, essay review, and study help for upcoming tests. Find more information on Kern High’s Digital Resource page.
Our counselors hosted a Senior Parent Night this last Wednesday to provide important information regarding college applications, financial aid programs, and senior activities/deadlines. If you were unable to attend this session, please access the presentation on the Counseling website HERE. There is a Junior Parent Night scheduled for this Wednesday, September 13, and a Freshman/Sophomore Parent Night scheduled for Tuesday, September 19. All sessions will be held in the PAC at 6:00pm.
The annual Kern County College Night returns tomorrow (Monday) evening! The Kern County Superintendent of Schools office, in conjunction with the Kern High School District, California State University, Bakersfield, and Bakersfield College, annually hosts the Kern County College Night at the Mechanics Bank Convention Center. The event attracts thousands of students and parents to explore higher education options. This is a free event and reservations/tickets are not required. More information can be found HERE.
This week, our intervention team will be providing information about community and campus resources for students’ mental health. If you believe your student would benefit from any of our intervention services, including counseling for substance abuse issues, anger management, and conflict resolution, please don’t hesitate to contact our office so we can direct you to the appropriate department.
We’d also like to remind you all to please complete the “Alternative Income Form,” sometimes referred to as a “lunch application.” By completing this simple online form, you can help IHS maintain funding we depend on for critical student resources.
