Greetings, Falcon Families!
This upcoming week showcases many of the opportunities for and achievements by our Falcon students! On Tuesday, we’ll gather at Hodel’s to honor the Jockey Club Award Winners for this fall. We’ll also be recognizing students who earned the Academic Excellence Award for their grades last semester in a ceremony on Wednesday. Our choir students will be performing on Tuesday evening, and there’s an orchestra concert on Thursday - please come out to support our amazing musicians and singers! On Saturday, October 14, our award-winning marching band and color guard will be competing at Centennial High School at the 27th-annual "Music in Motion" event.
We’re also proud to congratulate four of our students for earning top scores on the PSAT and receiving awards from the College Board National Recognition Program!
During lunch on Wednesday, all of our campus clubs and organizations will be hosting tables in the quad with information about membership. Students are encouraged to sign up for clubs that interest them - this is a great way to become more involved on campus!
Conditioning for winter sports (soccer, wrestling, and basketball) will begin on October 9 - please make sure you’ve submitted your student’s athletic packet and sports physical!
October will be a busy - but exciting - month, with Senior Nights for Tennis, Volleyball, Cross-Country, Water Polo, Football, Cheer, Band, and Color Guard teams! We’ll also be honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month at our “Pink-Out” games (football and volleyball). Students and staff alike are looking forward to our first Food Sale Day, during which clubs invite food trucks and other vendors to sell a variety of food and beverages during lunch, on October 19! We’ll round out the month with our 2nd-Annual Trunk or Treat event!
On October 16, Jostens will be speaking to seniors about end-of-year deadlines and graduation information. They'll be on campus again on October 24 during lunch to take orders for caps and gowns.
For any freshmen through juniors who missed the first picture day, makeup photos will be taken on October 17. If you already purchased your students' photos from the first session, they were delivered to teachers this week, so please make sure your student received theirs.
Members of the community will be joining staff and students on October 18 for Principal Partners Day - this is a chance for us to showcase the myriad programs and services offered at IHS, as well as an opportunity to connect with local community members and organizations.
Interested in more ways to get involved at IHS? Looking for some additional resources? Our Parent and Family Center is here to help! Find out how to become an “observer” on Canvas to track your student’s academic progress. Quarter 1 ends this Friday, so it’s always a good idea to check in and ensure they’re on top of their coursework.
Please remember to complete the “Alternative Income Form,” sometimes referred to as a “lunch application.” By completing this simple online form, you can help IHS maintain funding we depend on for critical student resources.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 661.834.8001 - thank you for all you do!
Sincerely,
Guillermo Alvarado, Ed.D
Principal, Independence High School
