COUNSELING CORNER
The Link Crew Leaders will be hosting the annual "Cocoa and Cram" study session for 9th graders from 4:00-6:00 in the Cafeteria. There will be teachers representing all of the subject areas as well as student Link Leaders to assist the freshmen before they take their first final exams. Transportation will be available.
When we resume on January 8th, students will report to their 1st period, 1st semester class. Teachers will pass out "official schedules" to students. If the student's 1st period has changed, they will be given a few minutes to report to their new class.

Greetings, Falcon Families!
Holiday celebrations are in full swing at Independence! One of the best characteristics of our school is how dedicated our students are to acts of service. Numerous clubs and classes are collaborating to bring joy to local families via gift drives, donations, hygiene drives, and more. It’s inspiring to see students focused on helping the community in a season that can be difficult for struggling families.
Speaking of holiday spirit, come out to hear our amazing Falcon vocalists and musicians this week! Our choir performs on Tuesday, and our band will present their holiday concert on Thursday (both at 7:00pm). Yesterday, our award-winning band and color guard marched in the NOR Christmas Parade - it’s always a treat to watch their performances!
There are only two weeks until the end of the first semester. Please encourage your students to attend our after-school tutoring sessions available on Tuesdays through Fridays (late transportation provided) or to access our online tutoring support on tutor.com. We even have a special evening of tutoring oriented to our newest Falcons - our annual "Cocoa and Cram" will be held in the cafeteria on December 19 for 2 hours after school. Both teachers and Link Crew Leaders will offer tutoring and guidance, along with hot cocoa for some holiday cheer, before finals begin.

We'd like to give a special shout-out to our senior Falcon Kaylynn Bolden, who, on December 7, broke the the IHS Girls' Basketball all-time rebounding record, with a career total of 960 rebounds. We're so proud of her!
Winter Formal tickets are currently on sale! With the theme of "Night of a Thousand Lights," the dance will be held at the beautiful Batey Gardens at the Kern County Museum on January 27, 2024, from 7:00pm to 10:00pm (students must arrive before 8:00pm in order to gain entry). More details regarding pricing and guest contracts are available on the IHS website and Instagram.
