COUNSELING CORNER
It is that time of year when we start preparing for the 2024-2025 school year! AP/Honors/DE Request forms are now available. Students can visit independence.kernhigh.org, select the "Counseling" dropdown menu, and then "Applications/Forms." They can print out the request forms, complete them, and turn them into the Counseling Secretary by February 29th. Greetings, Falcon Families!
This past week, we continued to celebrate Black History Month, while also honoring our amazing counseling team for National School Counselor Appreciation Week! We are so grateful for all they do to help students achieve their academic and career goals!
Playoffs for winter sports begin this week! Boys basketball plays at home on Tuesday, while the girls will travel to Dinuba on Wednesday. Boys soccer will play at home on Wednesday against Wasco, while the girls - who earned the number one seed - square off against Edison on Tuesday. Come out and support our amazing Falcon athletes!
Progress Report #3 grades closed last week, and there are only a few short weeks before the end of Quarter 3, so if your student is struggling in a particular subject, please encourage him/her to attend our after-school tutoring sessions. Tutoring sessions are available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after school until 5:15pm in room 1101. A late bus will be provided. IHS also offers 24-hour access to Tutor.com, which provides individualized academic support. Interested in more ways to get involved at IHS? Looking for some additional resources? Our Parent and Family Center is here to help! Find out how to become an “observer” on Canvas to track your student’s academic progress. Our Parent and Community Center Liaison, Dolores DeLeon, has organized many events throughout the year to provide critical information, support parent involvement, and build community among our families!
