COUNSELING CORNER
It is that time of year when we start preparing for the 2024-2025 school year! AP/Honors/DE Request forms are now available. Students can visit independence.kernhigh.org, select the "Counseling" dropdown menu, and then "Applications/Forms." They can print out the request forms, complete them, and turn them into the Counseling Secretary by February 29th. Greetings, Falcon Families!
Playoffs for winter sports began this past week! Boys basketball and girls soccer progressed to the quarterfinals and our girls soccer team will be squaring off against Clovis West in the semifinals on Tuesday! Spring sports are starting strong - we had our first baseball/softball games, along with our first track meet! Come out and support our amazing Falcon athletes!
This upcoming week features a favorite tradition at Independence: our outstanding FFA department hosts the annual FFA Week, with activities in the quad each day showcasing the many facets of the agricultural industry. On Friday, students can "pie" an FFA officer and a lucky teacher will be selected to kiss a pig!
There are only a few short weeks before the end of Quarter 3, so if your student is struggling in a particular subject, please encourage him/her to attend our after-school tutoring sessions. Tutoring sessions are available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after school until 5:15pm in room 1101. A late bus will be provided. IHS also offers 24-hour access to Tutor.com, which provides individualized academic support. Interested in more ways to get involved at IHS? Looking for some additional resources? Our Parent and Family Center is here to help! Find out how to become an “observer” on Canvas to track your student’s academic progress. Our Parent and Community Center Liaison, Dolores DeLeon, has organized many events throughout the year to provide critical information, support parent involvement, and build community among our families!
