It is that time of year when we start preparing for the 2024-2025 school year! AP/Honors/DE Request forms are now available. Students can visit independence.kernhigh.org, select the "Counseling" dropdown menu, and then "Applications/Forms." They can print out the request forms, complete them, and turn them into the Counseling Secretary by February 29th. Greetings, Falcon Families!
We are incredibly proud of our Lady Falcons soccer team for their victory in the CIF Central Section Championships on Friday! Varsity baseball is off to a hot start and is set to play in the Terrio Tournament championship next Tuesday night at Bakersfield College at 6 pm. Isaac Quiroz represented IHS at the State Wrestling Championship this past weekend. We wish them all the best as they compete at the highest levels of their sport and are looking forward to a great spring season of athletics! This Wednesday, we'll honor our winter athletes at the Winter Sports Awards Ceremony.
This past Thursday, we hosted our annual Academic Programs Night, during which we introduced incoming 8th graders and their families to the many programs we offer at Independence. Representatives from the Agriculture, AVID, Visual and Performing Arts, Energy Academy, and GATE departments provided information and highlights from their respective programs. We're looking forward to welcoming them as new Falcons in August!
We also recognized our 2024 Teacher of the Year, Claudia Walsh! Claudia has been a leader in the World Languages department at IHS since 2009 and is a beloved member of our team.
There are only a few short weeks before the end of Quarter 3, so if your student is struggling in a particular subject, please encourage him/her to attend our after-school tutoring sessions. Tutoring sessions are available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays after school until 5:15pm in room 1101. A late bus will be provided. IHS also offers 24-hour access to Tutor.com, which provides individualized academic support. Interested in more ways to get involved at IHS? Looking for some additional resources? Our Parent and Family Center is here to help! Find out how to become an “observer” on Canvas to track your student’s academic progress.
