We at Independence High School are excited to welcome our students and staff to the 2025-2026 school year and we hope you all had a chance to recharge with your families! Athletics and activities have been ramping up over the past few weeks, with Falcon musicians attending their annual summer band camp, athletes practicing for their first scrimmages, and FFA students gearing up for this year's fair! We have some amazing things planned for our first month back, including a school-wide rally, Senior Sunrise, Back-to-School Night, and Club Fair Day - so please encourage your student to get involved on campus!
If you'd like to be involved in our school decision-making, we are currently looking to fill two parent/guardian positions on our School Site Council. Parent representatives will attend four of these advisory meetings per year for a two-year term. These public meetings allow students, staff, parents, and community members to provide input and oversight regarding the use of supplemental funds for school improvement. Speaking of parent involvement, we have welcomed a new staff member to our campus - Toni Serrano is our new Community Schools Liaison, and she has a wealth of knowledge and experience working with students, staff, and community members. In addition, we encourage you to visit the Parent Center (contact Dolores DeLeon) or check out the IHS website if you have questions about accessing Synergy, ParentVue, or Canvas, or any other resources available to you and your student. Also, please connect to ParentSquare, our new communication hub for Kern High School students.
We have many exciting events and opportunities planned for the next few weeks - stay tuned to our website and Instagram page (@ihsfalcons) for details about our upcoming spirit week, rally, football games, and lunch activities! Homecoming will be right around the corner!
