Greetings, Falcon families! We had a great first week at Independence! Our Falcon staff and students were positive, engaged, and excited to start the school year! The amazing Falcon band and cheerleaders welcomed students on Wednesday with fight songs in the quad, while Link Crew leaders helped incoming freshmen find their first-period classes (check out some video footage HERE). On Friday, seniors gathered to watch the sunrise to mark their last year of high school and we held our first all-school rally! This week, we'll be hosting grade-level assemblies to introduce our RISE expectations of Responsibility, Integrity, Service, and Excellence!
We're thrilled to report that one of our Falcons is a US Champion and USA gymnastics team member! Troy Holman is a senior who just competed at the US Championships and brought home the gold in parallel bars. He is an incredible student athlete who maintains a full AP schedule on top of his intense practice regimen and he hopes to attend Stanford next year. Congratulations, Troy!

If you'd like to be involved in our school decision-making, we are currently looking to fill two parent/guardian positions on our School Site Council. Parent representatives will attend four of these advisory meetings per year for a two-year term. These public meetings allow students, staff, parents, and community members to provide input and oversight regarding the use of supplemental funds for school improvement.
