Greetings, Falcon Families!
It's almost time for Homecoming! This Friday, we launched the celebration with our first whole-school rally, where we introduced our fall athletes and royalty candidates! Saturday, the Class of 2027 hosted "A Night in Miami," a great night of music, dancing, and food. In the upcoming days, we'll have activities in the quad leading up to the big game on Friday. Come join us in cheering for our team and honoring our Homecoming royalty finalists!
Our students in FFA are working to prepare for the upcoming Kern County Fair, where they’ll demonstrate their skills in a variety of agricultural disciplines! We encourage you to visit their impressive displays!
Our counselors will be hosting parent nights in the next few weeks to provide important information for each class. The session for senior parents is scheduled for September 25, with critical information regarding college applications, financial aid programs, and senior activities/deadlines. The session for junior parents will be held on October 9, and the freshman/sophomore session will be on October 2. Stay tuned for more details regarding time/location.
All sophomores will be completing mandatory hearing tests this week. Please contact our office if you have any questions.
October will be a busy - but exciting - month, with Senior Nights for tennis, volleyball, and water polo. We’ll also be honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month at our “Pink-Out” games (football and volleyball). Students and staff alike are looking forward to our first Food Sale Day, during which clubs invite food trucks and other vendors to sell a variety of food and beverages during lunch, on October 17! We’ll round out the month with our 3rd-Annual Trunk or Treat event on October 29!
Please remember to complete the “Alternative Income Form,” sometimes referred to as a “lunch application.” By completing this simple online form, you can help IHS maintain funding we depend on for critical student resources.
As always, we appreciate your support as we work to provide your students with the best possible educational experience. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Guillermo Alvarado, Ed.D
Principal, Independence High School
