We had an amazing Back-to-School Night last Monday. The turnout was fantastic! The enthusiasm and support of families is incredible to see. Thank you for taking the time to vote for our Parent Representative positions on the IHS School Site Council. Based on the ballots submitted online and in person, we want to congratulate our two parents that were elected for these two posts. Congratulations to Jacqueline Bolden and Shelly Golla!
Our math tutoring and homework help starts this week on Tuesday, September 3rd. Tutoring will be held in the library from 4:15pm to 5:15pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. A 5:30pm bus will be available for students in the bus loading zone. Tutor.com is available to students 24/7 for all subjects. Students can access this service by using the link provided their Canvas courses.
Club Fair Day is September 4th during lunch. Students will be able to see all of the clubs our school has to offer. Advisors and officers will be on hand to answer questions. Students will have the opportunity to join at that time.
LifeTouch will be on campus this Friday (September 6) for school photos. Please visit the IHS website for the QR code if you would like to purchase photos. Please note: these photos are only for freshmen through juniors; seniors are required to take their Joseph Estrada Photography.
All parents of students at Independence High School are asked to submit an Alternative Income Form to ensure that all our students receive supports provided through the funding that is allocated through this program. Please submit this form no later than September 15th, 2024. You can use this Alternative Income Form link to fill out an electronic form or you can request a paper copy from the front office.
It’s almost Homecoming season! Mark your calendars for our Homecoming events. The Homecoming Rally on Friday, September 13th will kick off the festivities. Our Homecoming Dance will be held on Saturday, September 14th from 6pm-9pm. The theme is Miami Nights. Spirit week will be September 16-20. Dress up days will be announced soon. Last but not least, our Homecoming game against RFK will take place on Friday, September 20th.
Our students in FFA are working to prepare for the upcoming Kern County Fair, where they’ll demonstrate their skills in a variety of agricultural disciplines! We encourage you to visit their impressive displays at this year’s fair!
While Suicide Prevention should be addressed year-round, September is designated as a reminder to raise awareness and empower everyone to recognize the warning signs in our loved one. We will be meeting with students ever various days to talk about this important topic--September 5, 9, 10, and 12. If you prefer that your student opt out of this presentation, please contact the counseling office so we can maker alternate arrangements for them.
September 9th is Kern County College Night at Mechanics Bank Convention Center. Parents are able to speak with representatives from various universities, attend information sessions, learn about scholarships, and so much more! Kern County College Night
As a reminder, there is no school on Labor Day, Monday, September 2nd.
