We had another great week at Independence, with big wins in volleyball and a valiant effort against Liberty's football team. Our SOAR Center sent student advocates to Lakeside School for peer mentoring and our PLUS students led fun activities in the quad to promote a positive school culture!
We are so proud of our FFA students - they had an outstanding turnout at this year’s fair. One of our home-grown lambs was named Kern Bred and Fed lightweight champion, and Reagan Perry won first place in the large animal Round Robin event, meaning she’ll go on to compete against all the other 1st-place winners at the state level!
Progress reports were mailed out a couple of weeks ago, and we’re approaching the end of the first quarter! If your student is struggling in one or more subjects, please consider one of the academic support options provided by IHS. We have started our after-school tutoring program - students can seek help in math and science on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 4:15 - 5:15 in the library. There’s a bus that arrives at 5:30 for students who need transportation.
Another valuable resource that’s available to students at school and at home is Tutor.com. This website provides 24/7 live, online tutoring services to students in any subject. Tutoring can be via text or video chat, and all tutors are highly trained professionals that can support students with any needs they might have. This includes reviewing concepts, homework assistance, essay review, and study help for upcoming tests. Find more information on Kern High’s Digital Resource page.
October is going to be a busy month - with our first Food Sale Day; our Homecoming dance, rally, and game; and our annual Trunk or Treat event! Keep an eye on ParentSquare and our Instagram page (@ihsfalcons) for more details!
