Greetings, Falcon Families!
Welcome back from a much-needed break! We are in the midst of a new athletic season, but we want to recognize an amazing fall season at our Fall Sports Awards night, which will be held on Wednesday, December 3, at 6:30pm in the PAC. Huge congratulations to our amazing fall sports athletes - Natalie Flores won 3rd place in the valley championships for cross-country, and our football team went all the way to valley championships!
As we return for the final stretch of the first semester, it is imperative that our students focus on demonstrating mastery of the concepts and skills they have learned in the past several months. Please encourage them to attend our after-school tutoring sessions available on Tuesdays through Thursdays (late transportation provided). We even have a special evening of tutoring oriented to our newest Falcons - our annual "Cocoa and Cram" will be held in the cafeteria on December 16 for 2 hours after school. This is an event in which both teachers and Link Crew Leaders will offer tutoring and guidance, along with hot cocoa for some holiday cheer, before finals begin.
Another valuable resource that’s available to students at school and at home is Tutor.com. This website provides 24/7 live, online tutoring services to students in any subject. Tutoring can be via text or video chat, and all tutors are highly trained professionals that can support students with any needs they might have. This includes reviewing concepts, homework assistance, essay analysis, and study help for upcoming tests. Find more information on Kern High’s Digital Resource page.
Aside from academic preparations, we are looking forward to several of our beloved traditions in the upcoming weeks. Our annual "Falcons Got Talent" show, produced by the Class of 2026 officers, will be held on Friday, December 12! Come out and support our incredibly talented Falcon singers, dancers, and musicians! Also, our choir and band will present their holiday concerts (December 9 and 11, respectively).
Interested in more ways to get involved at IHS? Looking for some additional resources? Our Parent and Family Center is here to help! Find out how to become an “observer” on Canvas to track your student’s academic progress.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us at 661.834.8001 - we appreciate all you do!
Sincerely,
Guillermo Alvarado, Ed.D.
Principal, Independence High School
