Greetings, Falcon Families!
We are so grateful for our BSU, YWEL, and Project Best groups for all their work promoting Black History Month! This past Friday, the groups hosted a barbecue cookout - it was a great time of food, fun, music, and camaraderie! The final week of February will feature a campus-wide door decorating contest celebrating musical icons!
We’re also proud of our fabulous FFA department, which hosted educational and engaging activities in the quad all week, including branding, roping, and butter-churning lessons! Plus, we saw teachers compete for the dubious honor of kissing a goat - everyone was a winner!
Our wrestling program made history on February 13 and 14 by becoming the boys valleys division 3 team runner up and qualifying 10 wrestlers to the Central Section Grandmasters Championships! Titus Willis, Adam Farley, and Harmony Sefo all made the Valley Championship Finals with Ayda Caudillo, Francisco Beltran, Isaac Ramirez, Devin Davis, Nolan Backstrom, Rey Reyes, and Rowen McDonald all qualifying.
We have some exciting events planned for this week, including an assembly for juniors about the amazing prizes they’ll be able to earn during state testing, a field trip to Del Oro to share leadership strategies and ideas for improving campus culture, and a program/elective fair on Friday featuring our wide variety of elective pathways!
The window for Progress Report #3 closed last week, and progress reports will be mailed home soon, so, if your student is struggling in one or more subjects, please encourage them to attend our after-school tutoring sessions available on Tuesdays through Thursdays (late transportation provided).
Another valuable resource that’s available to students at school and at home is Tutor.com. This website provides 24/7 live, online tutoring services to students in any subject. Tutoring can be via text or video chat, and all tutors are highly trained professionals that can support students with any needs they might have. This includes reviewing concepts, homework assistance, essay analysis, and study help for upcoming tests. Find more information on Kern High’s Digital Resource page.
Interested in more ways to get involved at IHS? Looking for some additional resources? Our Parent and Family Center is here to help! Find out how to become an “observer” on Canvas to track your student’s academic progress.
