What is the Agriculture Department?
The Agriculture Department at Independence provides students the opportunity to gain real life skills, while also gaining Science credit and Dual Enrollment Credit. As a Freshmen students have the opportunity enroll in Introduction to Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources. This class is an exciting lab based course teaches students traditional science concepts through agriculture, allowing students to gain the required Freshmen Science credit while being in the Agriculture program. Freshmen also have the option of enrolling in Agriculture Mechanics 1 for their Freshmen elective, this course gives students the opportunity to gain basic shop skills and Dual Enrollment Credit. We have many other classes that you will have the opportunity to take at Independence such as Floral Design and Sustainable Agriculture Biology.
Agriculture?
This all sounds great, but why Agriculture? We have students from diverse backgrounds in our program, many do not come from an Agricultural background. Students in the Agriculture program are given the benefit of learning, experience, leadership, competition, travel, and growth. The Agriculture program has something for every student, whether it is at one of our monthly activity nights such as Kickball or one of our many field trips. Join the Agriculture program today!
